Terms of Reference

DBC Accreditation, Education and Training Committee Terms of Reference

Encourage the growth and development of DBC Coach, Steersperson, and Officials training and accreditation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the executive director in the development and implementation of selection criteria and performance standards for all coach training and accreditation programs.
  • Recommend accreditation and training exemptions as appropriate.
  • Annually review Coach Training and Accreditation tools and materials for upgrade and revision.
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Directors in regard to coach accreditation and training processes and protocol.
  • Serve as jury and render decisions for any disputes of Coach Accreditation that rest outside the existing appeal and dispute protocols and processes.

DBC BCS Development Committee Terms of Reference

Oversee the development of Breast Cancer Survivors racing and development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the executive director in development, implementation and standards of DBC BCS racing and programs, and to provide recommendation to the Board of Directors in the development of BCS Programs.

Terms of Reference

DBC Hall of Fame Selection Committee Terms of Reference

Accept nominations and provide a slate of candidates to the board of directors for induction to the DBC Hall of Fame in:

  1. the individual athlete category;
  2. the crew category;
  3. the coach category;
  4. the officials and volunteer category;
  5. the builder category

Responsibilities

  • Promote the DBC Hall of Fame.
  • Circulate the DBC Hall of Fame nomination process.
  • Review all Hall of Fame nominations.
  • Make recommendation to the Board of Directors on the awarding of Hall of Fame recognition to selected nominees.
  • Review and recommend to the Board any changes to these terms of reference, Hall of Fame nomination and selection processes.

DBC Safety and Wellness Committee Terms of Reference

The SWC shall provide leadership and direction in the following areas:

  • Injury prevention
  • Development, review and revision of safety guidelines and manuals

Responsibilities

  • The SWC shall provide recommendations to the Board of Directors, Accreditation,
    Education and Training and High Performance Committees regarding injury prevention
    and safety
  • The SWC shall provide recommendations to the Board of Directors, Officials and Festival
    Committees regarding injury prevention and safety
  • Collect injury data under the purview of Dragon Boat Canada
  • The SWC shall manage and update a permanent database relevant to the analysis of
    athlete injury and safety incidents

DBC High Performance Committee Terms of Reference

Create / Foster the means for Canadian International teams (including, but not limited to World Dragon Boat Racing Championships (WDBRC), and Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) to achieve medal performances).

Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendation to the Board of Directors in the development of High Performance programs
  • Provide recommendations to the Board of Directors in the development of Competition Rules and Regulations
  • Develop and oversee National Team Director selection
  • Make recommendation to the Board of Directors on the appointment of National Team Directors
  • Approve National Team athlete selection processes and criteria.
  • Make recommendation to the Board of Directors in regards to the CCWC processes and protocols
  • Serve as jury and render decisions for any disputes of National Team Programs that rest outside the existing appeal and dispute protocols and processes

Terms of Reference

DBC Officials Committee Terms of Reference

Provides leadership and direction to the Executive Director and Board of Directors in the development of Domestic Officials, Officiating Programs and International Strategies relating to Officials and rules.

This committee shall, through DBC, support the International Dragon Boat Federation's (IDBF) Official's programs, rules and regulations domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • The RC shall oversee the Rule Change Process
  • The RC shall provide recommendations to the Board of Directors in the development and revision of the DBC Rules of Racing
  • The RC shall make recommendation to the board on the development and revision of IDBF Rules and Regulations
  • The RC shall make recommendation to the Board of Directors in regards to the CCWC processes and protocols.

Para Athlete committee's objectives are
1. To increase accessibility of Para Athlete programs
2. To promote consistent Para Athlete racing opportunities
3. To create and implement supports and programs for Para Athletes
4. Function as a resource for Para Athletes
5. Function as a liaison for Para Athletes and DBC

Oversee the implementation of the rule change process and develop recommendations regarding rules and regulations to maximize the growth, sustainability and capacity of the sport.

Responsibilities

DBC Youth Racing Committee Terms of Reference

To create and foster Dragon Boat awareness, development and racing opportunities for Canadian youth (including, but not limited to University Division, 24 and Under Division and Junior Division).

Responsibilities

  • provide recommendation to the Board of Directors in the development and implementation of programs for Junior, 24 and Under and University and College athletes and participants
  • Annually review all YRC programs

Terms of Reference

DBC Para Subcommittee for Veterans Terms of Reference

The Para Subcommittee for Veterans shall provide leadership and direction regarding the overall involvement of veteran support organizations, veterans, and veterans with disabilities in dragon boating across Canada.

Core Objectives

  1. To address Para Veteran issues.
  2. To increase access to programming for Para Veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendations pertaining to its core objectives to the Board, and to the Para Athlete, High Performance, and Festival committees as requested.
  • Assess current and anticipated needs of the para and veteran communities and identify opportunities to provide programming for veterans and veterans with a disability.
  • Establish and continually strengthen the links between veterans/veterans groups and teams/clubs/events/festivals.
  • Establish a community that promotes awareness and fosters collaboration amongst and between veterans, veteran groups, teams, clubs, and festivals/events across Canada.
  • Develop a network and resources to champion local/regional Para Veteran needs, develop mutually beneficial relationships, raise awareness, and connect veterans with a disability and their supporters to teams, clubs, and festivals/events across Canada.
